Excellent Blu-Ray/DVD Player
This is a great Blu-Ray/DVD player. I got it at Best Buy as an open box item. I needed one for my bedroom as I had never had one in there before. It has been quite awhile since I bought a DVD player and wasn’t expecting to find one this compact. It works great and setup was simple. Normally i wouldn’t consider Best Buy as they are so expensive but seeing this deal I happily went there and bought the player.

More than I really need
I bought this with the thought that I am betting on the future. Right now I have an older Panasonic plasma TV with its highest resolution at 1080I. This definitely seems to give a better picture than my older Sony Blu-Ray, but that could just be in my head. I don't like 3 things on this. 1. All controls on the unit itself are the same color as the body, so it's very hard to discern what is what. 2. It constantly comes up with the screen "Language Selection" at the start. You'd think you'd be able to chose it once and it would remember always. 3. The buttons on the remote are TINY, very hard to see, and not where you'd expect them. Not very intuitive. So far, so good though.

Solid Buy
I needed a good, relatively simple 4K BluRay player. Having good, 1 year old QLED from Samsung, I did not need any streaming or Bluetooth options. This guy was on sale (very good deal Best Buy) so I decided to purchase it. I am glad I did. It works like a charm with my TV, set up was a breeze and menus are easy to navigate. I recommend getting a good 4K HDMI cable along with it (it is NOT included). I have not tried any 4K movies yet, however BluRay and DVD upscaled picture is beautiful. I strongly recommend it, especially when on sale - you won’t get 4K Ultra HD player for a better price, even online.

Sometimes you just need a dumb disc player.
If you are looking at a Ultra HD disc player, you likely already are using it in conjunction with a 4K TV. Nearly every 4K TV is smart, so why buy a second smart device that duplicates what is built into your TV, unless you hate the interface. For those of us, that realize this, this may be your ticket to joining the 4K disc crowd, because streaming services have just gone wack and out of hand. Plus most 4K disc content come with a digital download of the media. That can be loaded onto a USB stick and stuck in the front of the player if the disc is not around. However, HDR is where this player falls flat. It does not support as many formats as the bigger brother DB-420. The DB-420 also gets you smart capability. The picture quality, as is with any 4K disc content, is extremely good, despite not having as much HDR stuff. But unless your TV does a good job at rendering HDR, and the price point of this player, you can not really go wrong. The remote is cheap and small. All electronics have become this way. One of the few things that was good about late 1990s electronics was the remote. Panasonic has been the leader in blu ray players since they came on the market around 2007. They are a step above in quality from Sony, LG, and Samsung. The only Panasonic disc player that has died for me was a vintage 2002 progressive scan DVD player, back when that was a step up from a regular DVD player, then a year later everything on the mainstream market was progressive scan. I have had five Panasonic video disc players (1 progressive scan, 1 - 5 DVD progressive scan changer, 2 blu ray players and finally a 4k Ultra player. I bought this one for my friend's 65" 4K TV knowing he would need a disc player, but since it is a vacation rental, and the TV is smart, he just needed a dumb cheap player.

The price was right.
This 4K Blu-Ray was the least expensive one I could find that was not a refurb. The sound and picture are tremendous improvements over standard Blu-Ray. The depth and detail is mind blowing. Better than at a movie theater. If your system isn't up to the task, you will miss out on these worthy graphics and sound. The issues (problems/downfalls) of a standard Blu-Ray are still present, Slow loading. There are some quirks that drive me a little crazy. Would these quirks be eliminated by a more expensive player? I do not know. The biggest issue is a poor remote with buttons that are not responsive. Another issue is how the player reacts when you turn off the player in the middle of a movie. Sometimes no problem, other times you must start the movie from the beginning. Overall, this is well worth the $100 I paid. 4K is awesome. Unless you are going to purchase a ton of 4k disks, you should be happy with this compared to the base model for other brands. Also this has no Wi-Fi and updating the player has proved annoying with no success in the 4 times I have tried. Do I need the updates? Good question. Player has worked well without any updates so I think I'm good.
